CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada regulators have approved two companies to independently test the integrity of slot machines and other gambling equipment.
Gaming Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli approved the registrations Thursday for Gaming Laboratories International, LLC and BMM International, LLC.
The Gaming Control Board's technology division has been conducting the tests for decades. But a law from the 2011 legislative session opened the door for that work to be outsourced to independent labs.
Lipparelli says gambling technology is advancing at faster and faster speeds, and using independent labs will allow Nevada to keep up.
He said members of the state's technology division will now focus on setting policy, certifying testing labs and staying ahead of technology trends.
