Dedicated to poker players, this new column will be bringing you information on the various poker rooms and promotions taking place around the city.
Orleans
The poker room at the Orleans is one of the most popular in the Vegas valley. It’s a large room and you can always find a game going on…usually many games, especially in the evenings. They attract both locals and tourists.
The Orleans currently offers a Progressive Hold’em Bad Beat Jackpot that begins at $50,000 and grows until hit. That one is ongoing. During September there’s a Hold’em Royal Flush Bonus of $1,000 offered daily. Their poker rewards program pays players $1.25 per hour in comp values with no maximum.
Riviera
On the north end of the Strip, the resort’s smaller poker room offers a number of good promotions like a weekly $2,500 free roll. Players qualify by playing 15 hours in live games. However, they even make it a little easier to attain by offering double hours from 5-7 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 3-5 p.m., 7-9 p.m. and 11 p.m.-1 a.m. They have high hand progressives running 24/7. (All payouts are capped at $599.)
Additionally they run an Aces Cracked promotion, where the payout can be as much as $500. With the aces cracked, each combo of aces is only available once every 24 hours for a payout. Rather uniquely they also have tournament promotions. The room has progressive royal flush payouts within the tournaments and also a tournament bad beat.
Poker Room Manager Mark Selby tells us, “Just recently we have reduced the vig on our $60 daily tournaments to 20% and any player who plays in one of our dailies is given a $5 discount off of their next tournament. This reduces the vig down even further to under 16%.”
Coming up Oct. 7 will be a $10,000 GTD Hold’em tournament. Buy-in is $125 and they will accept comp dollars towards the buy-in. The hourly comp rate for poker players is $1 per hour with no daily cap.
Jokers Wild
The neighborhood friendly poker room in Henderson has an all new look and hours. The poker room opens every day at 10 a.m. and daily tournaments are held at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Monday’s, they host a Bounty Tournament at 4 p.m. The buy-in for tournaments is $55 for 10,000 tournament chips. The casino gives $10 in free slot dollars to all Prime Rewards Members for every initial tournament buy-in and complimentary food is served at the first break. A Bracelet “Deep Stack” Tournament is held the second Friday of every month at 6:30 p.m.
Just in: Unfortunately, the Tropicana closed its Gold Room poker room last week. The move came just seven months after the casino opened the room, named for 2006 WSOP winner Jamie Gold.
I’ll be bringing you more tournament information over the coming weeks and spotlighting various poker rooms and more promotions. Stay tuned.
May the “nuts” be with you.
