Apple’s Patents Not So Big in Japan as Samsung Found Not Liable for Infringement - Ina Fried - Mobile - AllThingsD

A judge in Tokyo has ruled that several Samsung phones and tablets don’t infringe on an Apple patent related to music and video technology.
According to reports fromBloombergReuters and others, the court ruled in Samsung’s favor and ordered Apple to pay the Korean company’s legal costs.
“We welcome the court’s decision, which confirmed our long-held position that our products do not infringe Apple’s intellectual property,” Samsung said in a statement to AllThingsD. “We will continue to offer highly innovative products to consumers, and continue our contributions towards the mobile industry’s development.”
An Apple representative was not immediately available for comment.
The Japanese ruling is the latest of several court decisions across the globe in recent days.
A Korean court ruled both companies infringe on the other’s technology, while a jury in San Jose, Calif., ruled last week that Samsung was liable for infringing a number of Apple design and feature patents and ordered it to pay more than $1 billion in damages.
